Meme kanseri, birçok ülkede kadınlarda en sık görülen kanser türü ve ölüm nedenidir. Her ay düzenli olarak kendi kendine meme muayenesi yapılması, meme kanseri için etkili bir tanı yöntemidir. Meme kanserinin erken tanı ve tedavisi için kendi kendine meme muayenesi basit, herkes tarafından uygulanabilen, özel araç gereç gerektirmeyen, kişilerin ayda on dakikasını alan bir erken tanı yöntemidir.
Araştırmamız, kadınların meme kanseri ve kendi kendine meme muayenesi hakkındaki bilgi ve uygulamalarını araştırmak için yapılmış tanımlayıcı bir çalışmadır. Araştırma 16 Eylül – 16 Aralık 2013 tarihleri arasında Aile Sağlığı Merkezinde yapılmıştır. Örnekleme 18 yaş üzerinde olup çalışmayı gönüllülük ile kabul eden ve araştırma kriterlerine uygun 285 kadın alınmıştır. Olgular ile yüz yüze görüşülüp, gönüllü olur formu ile izin alınmış tanıtıcı bilgi formu ve Champion sağlık inanç modeli ölçeği doldurtularak veriler toplanmıştır.
Araştırmaya katılan kadınların %41,4’ü 20-29 yaş arasında olup %60’ı evlidir ve %7,7’sinin ailesinde meme kanseri vardır. Kendi kendine meme muayenesi hakkında bilgisi olanların oranı %61,05 olup %20,7 si bilgi kaynağı olarak yakın çevreden öğrendiklerini ifade etmişlerdir. Kadınların tamamına yakını (%91,5 ) kendi kendine meme muayenesi yapmanın gerekliliğine inanırken, % 43,5’nin meme muayenesi yapmadığı ve yapmama nedeni olarak nasıl yapıldığını bilmediklerini (%23,1) ifade ettikleri belirlenmiştir.
Meme Kanseri Sağlık İnanç Modeli kullanılarak elde edilen tarama davranışlarına yönelik sağlık inançları ölçek alt boyut puan ortalamalarının 8.0 (±2.26) ile 31.52 (±7.14) puan arasında değiştiği bulunmuştur.
Araştırmanın sonucunda kadınların meme kanseri erken tanı ve uygulama yöntemleri hakkında eksikliklerin olduğu ve eğitimlerle bu eksikliklerin giderilebileceği saptanmıştır.

Breast cancer, the most common type of cancer in women in many countries and is the cause of death. Breast self-examinations done regularly every month, breast cancer is an effective diagnostic method. For early diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, breast self-examination is simple, can be applied by anyone, does not require special tools, people taking ten minutes a month is a method of early diagnosis.

Breast cancer is the most common and fatal type of cancer with women in many countries of the world. Monthly self checks are an effective way of diagnosis. For the early diagnosis of the breast cancer, self check-up of the breasts is an easy way of diagnosis that only takes 10 minutes every month, can be done by anyone, and doesn't require special skills or tools.
Our research is done to find out the women's knowledge and actions they take against the breast cancer, and application of the self breast cancer check-ups. The research was done at the family heath clinic between the dates of September 16th and December 16th 2013. The 285 women subjects were over 18 years of age, fit the criteria, and accepted to join the study voluntarily. All subjects were interviewed face to face using Champion's Health Belief Model Scale, and asked to fill the volunteer waiver form.

The amount of the women who knew how to self checkup for breast cancer were 61.05%, which 20.7% stated they learned how from their immediate circle of friends. While nearly all of the women (91,5%) believe that the self checkup is very important, 43.5% doesn't do it, and the reason for that is they don't know how.
It was found that the Health belief scale sub dimension point of the scanning habits found using Breast Cancer Health Belief Model averages varied between 8.0 (± 2.26) and 31.52 (± 7.14) points.
At the end of the study, it was found that the women are missing the knowledge of early detection and ways of application, and these insufficiencies can be fixed by trainings.
